About

I grew up in Kingussie, a small village situated in the beautiful Cairngorms National Park in the Highlands of Scotland. I moved to Edinburgh for university and now live in East Lothian.

I work with oil, acrylic, pastel, charcoal and I am drawn to printmaking techniques that help inform my experimental lightboxes.

My interest lies in creating drama and intrigue across the different media with contrasting light and shadow to convey the places or people as I see them, or wish them to be, not a photographic representation but more of a portal to a possible scene or dream with their own soundtrack.

I work towards creating immersive pieces of art which convey the sense of place that interest me, slightly unsettling quiet streets, ominous carnival scenes with or without figures and solo figures alone with their thoughts.

The process of my work allows true escapism for me as I work through from initial idea to sketches, then experimentation and decision of medium, through to a completed piece of work. I say escapism not in a sense of calm, but my process forces a removal of other distractions and allows clarity.
